As part of the competition, our aim in designing and landscaping the open space was to retain the atmosphere of a community garden, so that it remains a charming, quiet and calming museum garden. In contrast, we have emphasised the open space in front of the museum as a square, creating a large, continuous and ceremonial space.

The atmosphere of the garden is strongly influenced by the statues of local and world famous people. We have emphasised this with a playful yet solemn pathway network. They all focus on a single statue – existing and new statues, drinking fountains, and a series of them revealing hidden corners of the museum garden. The new elements and features of the garden are located behind the museum.
