The proposed design of the Királydomb Recreation Park responds to the development of the surrounding urban area. The park is served by a 1.5m wide walking path, which is aligned with the existing running path. The lower part has a classic public park design, with a tree planted and lawn area. The main attraction of its playground is a 12 m high rope pyramid, which makes the park a regionally outstanding playground. Nearby is the “throne seat”, an identity-forming element, referring to the name of the Királydomb (King’s Hill). The lookout terrace offers a beautiful view of the Buda Hills. In front of it we have designed a paved square, which is also suitable for smaller events. The square is covered by a pergola system of dinamically changing columns suitable for the installation of canopies, partly with a semi-intensive green roofs. To the west of the lookout terrace is the picnic area, shaded by the proposed trees.

The Teleki-Tisza Castle’s 10 hectares of parkland include community features such as a jogging track, walking paths, benches, a playground, an adventure park, a sacred-cultural space, a fireplace for families and friends, a pavilion, toilets, and picnic and relaxation areas on the grass or under the shade of the trees. The surroundings of the lake in front of the castle have been landscaped, with a pier overhanging the lake for outdoor events.

For CAN Architects it is important that the architecture and the community shape each other, and therefore the people who helped to design the new centre were involved in the evaluation of the situation, in the joint reflection, in the definition of goals and priorities.

2020_Tatabánya_main square

Our task was to design the new main square of Tatabánya, the Megyeháza Square. A former parking lot, was extended and made underground to create a representative, multifunctional square above it for the city. The square was designed to host important events in the city (concerts, advent fair, ice rink, etc.). In addition to serving representation and events, we also wanted to make the square an important stage for the everyday life of the residents, and we tried to create a liveable space with as much green space as possible.

2019_Dunafok Leisure Park, Budapest

The design of the DunaFok leisure park was carried out within the framework of the TÉR-Köz project. Along the reconstructed Danube cycle path, cycling and pilgrim resting points were created, together with a wooden paved pedestrian walkway. Active recreation is provided by a fitness park, a multi-purpose sports field and a new playground ground modelling. The connection to the Danube is provided by access points to the Natura 2000 site.

2019_Sports Park in Kőbánya

For decades, the Sportliget has been a popular recreational area for residents of the surrounding areas. Our plan is to build on this position, adding new features and infrastructure. Its area is divided into three main parts. The sports area includes various fields and areas for sports activities. The Great Meadow will be renewed in its original function, with the renovated playground remaining in its original location. The third unit is the Deep Lake, located in the north-western area of the Sports Park.

The plan makes use of the existing parkland, preserving and complementing the existing footpath system. A new focal point for the park is the reception area, which will provide a link between the existing swimming pool and beach and the park, serving both areas.

2018_Dósa Nádor square, Debrecen

The project was designed to improve the public spaces of Dósa Nádor Square, Csapó Street (flower market) and the connecting streets, and to integrate them into the existing pedestrian zone by limiting vehicle traffic. This allows the surface to be transformed into a pedestrian public square with a continuous lawn, a series of tree row, water features and flower beds. Due to its size and location, Dósa Nádor Square is an ideal venue for events, with the possibility of building a stage. The market stalls appear in two rows on the south side of Csapó Street, with custom-made canopies. During the renovation, new equipment has been installed, some of which are unique objects such as cast concrete planters, custom-made benches, a ‘lookout’, and wooden play globes. Our general designer was BORD Architects Studio.

2014_Békás-Tó, Debrecen

The surroundings of Békás-tó in Debrecen have been revitalised as part of a complex development involving ten project elements. In addition to the revitalisation of Békás-tó, large flower beds (the so-called Flower Forest) were created, unique solutions were added to the renovated stage area, a playground with unique colourful wooden elements was constructed and the area became accessible. The Fog Theatre’s water attractions offer refreshment in the summer heat.

2010_Katinyi Memorial Park, Óbuda

On behalf of the Municipality of Budapest, the Budapest Gallery announced an international competition for the design of a sculpture commemorating the martyrs of Katinyi in front of the Árpád High School in the 3rd district of Budapest, which was won by sculptor Géza Széri Varga. The sculpture is centred on a reinforced concrete cube with a black granite slab. The memorial is located on the Szőlő street side of the design area, on the axis leading to the memorial plaque, on a lawned surface further from the street. The elongated area is intersected by paving stripes similar to the axis of the sculpture, providing access towards the high school. A recurring motif in the green spaces between the pavements is the grey-coloured, high performance concrete strips. On the side facing Zápor street, columnar memorial oaks were planted in high performance concrete planters.

2008_Menyecske Park, Budapest

The construct plans of the park was prepared on the basis of a request from the Municipality of Újbuda (District XI of Budapest). Our task was to amend and revise the design for the central square of the Őrmező residential area. While retaining the motifs of the previous designs, we have aimed to create a spatial structure that provides the main circulation routes and separate recreational opportunities for different age groups. Along the roads, on 40 cm wide slabs of limestone poems can be read by three poets (László Kálnoky, István Kormos, Zoltán Zelk) who lived in the residential area. The green surface divides the square into two parts: a small shaded rest area in front of the medical practice, with benches, chairs, a drinking fountain and a chess table. On the other side, a larger paved area has been created, which can also be used as an event space.

2008_Kisköre park

The park is located in a residential area with good amenities, surrounded by a kindergarten and three apartment buildings. Its greatest value is its mature trees and quietness. The design was commissioned by the Municipality of District XI and carried out in June 2008, based on a survey of the needs of the residents. The client’s request was to remove the non-functional central asphalt surface, to ensure that the park and/or the playground can be enclosed, to extend the playground, to add a gate from the kindergarten, to design a dog toilet, to provide chess tables, ping-pong tables, a petanque court and a pavilion.
